The fake antivirus variant has been identified as TROJ_FAKEAV.SMRY
NEW DELHI, INDIA: Within a few hours after the North and South Korean war began, security services provider Trend Micro's researchers found that several fake anti-virus scammers were on move hijacking search queries, both in English and Korean languages, regarding the war.
The researchers add that the hijacked search results direct users, depending on browser, to a fake ActiveX control or a Flash Player update, which then uses a fake anti-virus threat to try to convince the user that their PC has been infected and that they need to buy bogus anti-virus software to remove it.
Trend Micro has blocked this fake antivirus variant, identified as TROJ_FAKEAV.SMRY, from hosting malicious files.
