Chinese government websites are considered vulnerable, and some of the industrial control systems security measures are severely challenged despite an overall stable operating situation for network infrastructure, according to information released at an Internet security conference held recently in Beijing.

Internet Security Report Conference for 2010 is a conference co-hosted in Beijing by the Bureau of Communications Security under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT/CC).

CNCERT/CC monitoring data showed that a total of 35,000 websites in mainland China were attacked in 2010, a decrease of 22 percent from 2009. However, 4,635 of the hacked sites were government websites, an increase of 68 percent from 2008.

Not only would the government's public image would be seriously hurt, but also false information could possibly be spread to the public if the websites security cannot be reasonably guaranteed and further improved.

Furthermore, CNCERT/CC received 1,597 phishing case reports in 2010, which is an increase of 33 percent from a year earlier. CNCERT also discovered 5 million domestic host computers infected with a Trojan or corpse virus for IP addresses, a sharp increase compared with a year earlier.
